You're in for a treat
Yes, it's cold. It's winter in Minnesota. That happens. But today's a Rotary day. And even better, it's a Student of the Month day. So put on some long underwear. Find your warmest mittens. Wrap a scarf around your entire torso. Then come join us for lunch and help us celebrate a couple of remarkable students.
This week
Our speaker today is Diane Lindo, who along with her business partner created Face 4 Your Future, an elaborate scheme by which your face is replaced with Nicolas Cage's face so you can infiltrate his sinister criminal empire.
Actually, check that. I'm told I'm thinking of the plot to the 1997 film masterpiece Face/Off. Face 4 Your Future is a nonprofit that allows Diane and her partner to "continue their quest of giving back and helping people become the best they can be."
The information I has isn't clear about exactly how they do that, so I can't swear Nic Cage's face isn't involved somehow. Show up and find out, I guess.
Next week
If you make it to only one Rotary meeting this month, you should probably work on your attendance. But record keeping aside, you should really be at our Nov. 17 meeting. That's when we'll wrap the gifts we bought for our Armful of Love families. An intrepid crew of Rotarians did the shopping on Monday of this week and got some good things for the two families we adopted. Armful of Love frowns (I assume) on just presenting everything in plastic Target bags, though. So please come by and help wrap next week.
For love of country
Circling back to that whole, Supporting the Military thing, tonight is Farmington's annual Patriotic Day celebration. Rotary will have a booth there, so if you want to come by and represent the club, we'd love to have you. People will start arriving at around 5 p.m. for a community pork chop dinner. The program starts at 7, which is when we pack up our booth and either head inside to see what's happening or head home. You're obviously free to head somewhere other than home if that's what you prefer. We're not the boss of you.
Won't that just make a lot of puddles?
Our friends at 360 Communities will hold their annual Fire and Ice gala from 6 to the surprisingly specific 11:55 p.m. Nov. 12. Our club has bought eight tickets, so if you would like to attend talk to Anika. We'll try to fill the table with club members first, but if there is not enough interest we will open the spots to significant others. Maybe we'll rank them by level of significance. I don't know.
Seniors need lunch, too
Please don't show up at Celts for our Dec. 15 meeting. There won't be any other Rotarians there. Instead, please show up at St. Michael's Catholic Church to help with our annual senior holiday luncheon. If you can, come early to help us get everything set up.
If you've never taken part, the luncheon is a lot of fun. It's especially fun if you've ever dreamed of working as a server in a restaurant. And who hasn't, am I right?
Anybody missing a cooler?
Many Rotarians were generous enough to allow use of their coolers during Ramble Jam. Apparently not all Rotarians were aware enough to bring those coolers home when everything was all over. If you're missing a cooler that looks like one of the bottom two in this photo, then there's a pretty good chance that's your cooler. If you're missing a cooler that looks like a Dalek from Doctor Who, we probably can't help you but I might like to know where you got that cooler. If you're interested in anything else in this photo, talk to Chris. Maybe he'll make you a deal.
Hosting duties
Tom and John are coasting toward the end of their hosting responsibilities for February. Two down, two to go.

Pam and Brian are busy planning an amazing lineup of speakers for March, as well as trying to figure out how they will hang the banners from the ceiling each week.

Please email your speaker information to Corey, Linda and Heidi. Because inquiring minds want to know.
