As political polarization has increasingly become a factor in our communities, schools, civic organizations and businesses, we're all learning how to navigate divides. Join us to learn about the (sometimes surprising) origins of division and actual steps you can take to bring down the temperature.

Shannon Watson is the Founder and Executive Director of Majority in the Middle. She has also served in policy and public affairs roles for the Medical Alley Association, St. Paul Area Chamber, U.S. Bank, the Minnesota Senate, and the National Conference of State Legislatures. Shannon has 20+ years of experience in electoral politics, advising candidates and working on campaigns on both sides of the aisle. Shannon holds a bachelor's degree in English, Theatre, and Psychology from Wichita State University and a master's degree in Advocacy and Political Leadership from the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

Hi everyone!   It's October again, and for those of you who have been in Rotary a long time, you know that means it's time to donate towards ending polio.  World Polio Day is October 24th.  Our club has always been generous in donating to this cause, and the good news is that polio is almost gone!  The number of cases is under 10 and they are clustered along the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, not spread around.       District 5960 has more information at the website below, with a short video from Charlie Hogan about this year's progress.  Charlie has spoken with our club many times about eradicating polio.   Strike Out Polio | Rotary District 5960 (rotary5960.org)   Farmington Rotary is not doing a big fundraising event for Strike Out Polio - we have usually just given money.  (probably because October comes so soon after Ramble Jam used to be!)  But if you think that a bowling tournament sounds like fun, talk with me and we can organize a proper fun-fundraiser for next year.    There's a link on the website above to donate online, or you can write a check and bring it to me at any of the October meetings.  I'll work with Nate to make sure it's submitted on time for you to receive any matching points.  (make check payable to The Rotary Foundation with PolioPlus in the memo line)   Any donation received in October for PolioPlus is matched 2:1 by the Gates Foundation.
