April 26 meeting: STRIVE students recognition

Join us on Thursday, April 26 at noon at Celt's in downtown Farmington when we honor our STRIVE students for the 2017-2018 academic year. STRIVE stands for Students Taking a Renewed Interest in Valuing Education. In this student-led program, seniors from Farmington High School work toward improving their academic and personal skills as they move toward graduation. Rotarians participate as mentors and facilitators at weekly meetings.
May 3 meeting: Students of the Month
Farmington Rotary's final Students-of-the-Month recognition for the 2017-2018 academic year takes place at our May 3 meeting when we once again honor some worthy Farmington citizens. We will recognize senior Styve Smedshammer from Farmington High School, and fifth-graders Maggie Crosby from Meadowview Elementary School and Megan Liebers from Gateway Academy.

Additionally, in keeping with our tradition at Farmington Rotary, we will also honor senior citizen Pennie Page for her volunteer work in our community and at Rambling River Center.

Join us at noon at Celt's in downtown Farmington to hear how these amazing Farmingtonites so generously give of their time and talents and live out the Rotary motto of putting Service Above Self. Guests are encouraged to attend this inspiring meeting.
Farmington Rotary wins awards at district conference

Thank you to Krysia, Janie, Lori, Shannon, Leshia and Lisa, who attended the District 5960 Conference of Clubs on April 20 where Farmington Rotary picked up four awards; Club of the Year for Community Service, runner up for Vocational Service and Public Image, and a District Governor's Citation.

Thank you to President Krysia for organizing and leading the charge on the awards applications, and to all of the board members who submitted information from their committee. And thanks to all Farmington Rotarians for #MakingADifference. We are clearly #PeopleOfAction!
Farmington Rotary welcomes Ann Hastings
President Krysia Moe welcomed Ann Hastings to Farmington Rotary on April 19. Ann is the director of violence prevention at 360 Communitites and has lived in Farmington for seven years. Ann is also a past member of the Hastings Rotary Club and enjoys running, gardening, hiking and reading.

Please reach out Ann and introduce yourself. We're excited to have her on board!
Still looking for a little help
We are still in need of a Rotarian or two to organize a few Ramble Jam promotional opportunities – specifically parades for Farmington Dew Days in June, Rosemount Leprechaun Days in July, and Farmington Homecoming in the fall. Without some help, we simply can't promote Ramble Jam to the extent necessary for a successful event. Email Linda if you want to further explore this opportunity.
Farmington Rotary makes important donation
Talk about Ramble Jam in action!

Farmington Rotary presented 360 Communities with a check for $8,000 on April 19 to support Partners for Success. Partners for Success places family support workers in Farmington schools to help students and families overcome barriers to success by implementing effective home-based strategies that increase parental involvement, improve academic performance and connect families to community resources.

According to a 2015 study by the University of Minnesota's Center for Applied Research and Educational Improvement (CAREI), for every dollar invested in Partners For Success, a conservative estimate of $5 is returned in social benefits, which includes personal earnings gains, higher tax revenues, public health savings, and crime reduction. The return on investment could be more than $14 with a more aggressive interpretation of the data.

This is important work. And Farmington Rotary is a part of it because of your support for our fundraiser, Ramble Jam. Thank you for making this donation possible.
