Stories This is not the Source you're used to Nathan has a new job and is busy complaining about not having time to nap. So this week's edition of the Source is coming to you courtesy of me. I'm not sure if there's some way for you to know who I am, but if not, I'll leave it to your imagination. If there is, well, then I'm apologizing in advance for whatever mistakes I make. So don't expect too much. Because frankly, I have no idea how this newsletter program works or what the final version will look like. This week: Run! Hide! Fight! No, that's not the appropriate response to everyone's political posts on Facebook. Well, it is – but it means something much more than that this week.   As a result of the Columbine High School shootings, police officers around the country have completely changed the way they train schools, hospitals and businesses to react when there is a threat in their building. Two Farmington principals who have gone through extensive training will review what happened at Columbine and share why the processes have changed. Be sure to attend so you know what to do if there is a threat at your place of business or at any public building.   This will be a great meeting to bring a guest or potential member. Well, every meeting is, but this one will be especially good! Next week: Everyone's favorite meeting Punxsutawney Phil won't be the only star on Feb. 2. That day is not only Groundhog Day – which is pretty awesome – it's also Student-of-the-Month day at Farmington Rotary, which is even awesome-er. I'm not sure if awesome-er is even a word (well actually, I am sure it isn't), but if it is, I'm not sure if it should be hyphenated. But I do know that when I type awesomer or awesomeer, the little red line that underlines the word tells me that spelling is not correct. But when I type awesome-er, no red line appears. So it's probably right, because otherwise it wouldn't be on the internet, right?   Anyway, be sure to attend our Student-of-the-Month meeting. Because even if you don't see the sun shine that day, you'll see some bright and shining stars at Farmington Rotary. Membership update: Where have all the Rotarians gone? We miss you! Attendance at meetings has been a little light lately. If other obligations have kept you away, we want you to know that you are missed and that life just isn't the same without you. Please consider re-engaging. We're a small club and we need you! Janie – our intrepid membership committee chair – wants you to know you can reach out to her with questions or for help if you need it. Or really, you can reach out to anyone in the club if you have stuff going on that requires your absence or assistance of some sort. Rotary is a service organization, and that includes service to our own members. Please let Janie or someone know how we can help get you involved again.   Wanted: New members Most Rotarians joined Rotary because they were invited by someone in the community they respect and admire. That someone is YOU. So please invite those you know to join you for a meeting or two. Prospective new members can attend three meetings without paying. Contact Janie for a membership application or pick one up at a weekly meeting. We have them in the box of club meeting information.   Farmington Community EXPO Our club needs new members. We want to promote all the good we do in our community. And we want people to attend Ramble Jam. Now we have the opportunity to do all of that at the Farmington Community EXPO.   Our club has the opportunity to host a booth at the EXPO this Saturday, Jan. 30 from 9 a.m. to noon at Farmington High School. Please consider giving a couple of hours of your time to help promote our club. Many of our fellow Rotarians have businesses and are working their own booth, so it's always hard to get volunteers to help with the Rotary booth. It's easy and fun, and the place to see and be seen in town! Let Nathan know if you can help. Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Luncheon Most of us don't think about domestic and sexual violence on most days. We are indeed fortunate. But for some, it is part of their daily life. Learn more about what can be done by attending 360 Communities Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Luncheon at Brackett's Crossing Country Club on Fri., Feb 24 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This informative and moving event brings together community leaders, law enforcement and concerned citizens to take a stand and end the violence.   Featured speakers are Commissioner Mona Dohman of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety and Chuck Derry, co-founder of the Gender Violence Institute.   The cost is $30.
